Eat Green for Your Health and Weight Loss

eating organicPeople have come to the realization that going green is now a part of our lives.  It is not something we just talk about for the future.  The time to take action is now.  People all over are paying attention to the cleaners, personal care products and foods they bring into their homes.

Eating green is an excellent step towards a healthier and longer life.  You do not have to give up all those foods you enjoy completely.  It is all about making better choices more often, as well as being aware of the consequences to the environment on how the food you eat is made.  Here is an example:  the simple process of making a cheeseburger.  Think about the process of growing the feed to produce the beef to the carbon output of the grill that cooks that beef.

Organic food has become more and more popular over the years.  It is important to check the labels on foods that “say” they are organic.  If the label states that is organic, it should state it is 95% organic.  If the label says “made with organic ingredients”, it will be at least 70% organic.

Here are some things to consider when buying organic:

• Shop in your local area

• Stay away from genetically modified organisms.  Be sure the product has a GMO free label.

• Buy fish that is safe from extinction to protect the ecosystem.  These include:  Catfish, Pacific Dungeness Crab, Alaskan salmon, Striped Bass, Tilapia

• Use open range meat products

• Use foods that have minimal packaging.

It is a lifestyle change that will eventually become second nature.  You will find yourself living a healthier, happier and longer life, as well as lose weight naturally, if you begin eating organic.
