Holiday Food Poisoning
It is the time for cooking, eating and being merry, so you need to be careful of those leftovers in your refrigerator. We all love leftover turkey and ham after the holidays, but it can only be kept in the refrigerator for so long. Hopefully you will never have to deal with food poisoning, but if you do you will want to know what to do quickly.
Food poisoning is a common ailment that occurs when you digest food or drink that has been contaminated with bacteria. Symptoms can show up anywhere between 12 and 72 hours after the contaminated food is eaten. You can expect to experience queasiness, abdominal pains, diarrhea, and maybe even vomiting.
The bad news is, there aren’t many treatments that can speed your recovery from food poisoning, but there are a few home remedies for food poisioning you can try to help relieve some of the symptoms.
Food Poisoning Remedies
The most common treatment for a mild case of food poisoning is to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of clear liquids. Avoid high sugar drinks like soda and avoid caffeine. Eating a few slices of plain bread can also help. The bread will absorb some of the poison for quick relief. Try eating at least three or four bananas a day until you’re feeling like yourself again. Bananas are rich in potassium, which can help your system recover from the effects of food poisoning faster.
In the majority of cases of food poisoning people start to feel better within about 24 hours. People who contract more severe strains of bacteria causing a worse case of food poisoning should seek help from their doctor. For the most part, your food poisoning will go away with the help of the above mentioned home remedies. Good luck and happy holidays.
