Itchy Feet and Athlete’s Foot

athletes footWhen you have itchy feet or athlete’s foot it is no fun.  You scratch and scratch with literally no relief.  Sometimes it can really be just itchy feet, but if it continues with no relief it’s probably athlete’s foot.

The cause of athlete’s foot is the growth of fungus on the foot or feet.  When your feet are moist, fungus can grow causing this itchy and irritating condition. This occurs on the feet due to visiting local swimming pools, locker rooms, gyms and public bathrooms.  You can also get infected by sharing socks or shoes with an infected person.

You can help alleviate athlete’s foot by controlling your diet.  Try to avoid eating baked products and products that have high yeast content in them.  Staying away from alcohol and sugar also helps.

Your diet should include fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables.  It’s beneficial to avoid fried and greasy food as well.

Home Remedies for Athlete's Foot

If you do eat healthy and still contract athlete’s foot you can try home remedies.  Try mixing water and white vinegar (one part vinegar and three parts water) and soak your feet in the mixture for about thirty minutes.  Try drying your feet with a hair dryer instead of a towel.

Baking soda is also a great item to rub on your feet once they are dry.  Try rubbing it in between your toes (coat your entire foot).

For immediate relief from itching or burning, soak your feet in an antiseptic mouthwash like Listerine. These suggestions should help tremendously and you will be itch free before you know it.
