Natural Remedies for the Common Cold
There is nothing worse than getting a cold. We tend to get them at the most inopportune time too (in the middle of the week, during the summer months, etc.). Talk about misery. A cold, or the flu, is an infection that causes fever, chills, cough, body aches, headaches, muscles pain, weakness, sore throat and sometimes sinus problems. All we want to do when we get it is get rid of it as quickly as possible. There is no vaccine that we can take to cause us to be immune to it, so we have no choice but to resort to medicine.
Remedies for the Common Cold
Instead of reaching for the over the counter medicine at the local drug store, try some of these natural home remedies first. You may be quite surprised and impressed at how quickly and effectively they work.
• Pour a cup of boiling water into a cup with horseradish root, wait about five minutes and drink. Do this three times per day until you feel better.
• Boil one cup of water mixed with one tablespoon of mustard seeds. Once it comes to a boil, turn to low for about five minutes. Wait until it cools and drink.
• Mix one tablespoon of lemon juice, one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of brandy together in a cup. Drink one tablespoon full three times per day.
• Make yourself some green onion soup and eat it as often as you like.
• Mix one teaspoon of cayenne to one cup of boiling water. Take one teaspoon from the mixture and mix with a cup of water; drink when needed.
• Drinking herbal tea with cinnamon helps alleviate the pain felt around the sinuses and the throat.
