Natural Treatment for Insulin Resistance
John was a hard working 38 year old carpenter. He had a wonderful family, an eleven year old boy and an eight year old girl. He was married and had a dog and a cat. He had an all American life that was going great, until he started to get tired more and more.
He just figured he was tired.
He blamed it on getting older. However, he started missing work because he was just so exhausted that he would sleep the entire day away.
He became weak and was not able to do the things he always enjoyed and used to do. He finally decided to go and visit the doctor.
The doctor ran a lot of tests and told him they would get back with him in a week.
The very next day, they contacted him and wanted him to come back in for more tests.
The doctor told him that he was a diabetic. This did not bother him too much as he thought this was not such a big deal. He would just quit eating candy and things would be okay. The doctor told him that he needed to make an entire lifestyle change starting today.
This still did not click with him, because he was feeling just a little tired. He assumed he would take a pill or two and things would be just fine. This was not the case. His one pill turned into three and then five and he had to start testing his blood sugar levels four times a day.
He began feeling worse and felt more pain. All he wanted to do was crawl into bed and sleep. He became grumpy and was a different person. His children suffered because their dad who once played with them turned into a grumpy stranger.
Finally, John decided it was time to get a plan to control his blood sugar. When he went to visit the doctor, he had one word for John – insulin.
Just the word insulin is scary to hear. Although he wasn’t familiar with insulin and its benefits, he just always thought it was not a good thing and the first thought that went through his mind was needles.
He decided it was a choice he had to make for himself and his family. Insulin is simply a tool to achieve better health and more control over blood sugar.
Once John started to take the insulin, it took a while to get the right dosage of insulin to control his blood glucose levels.
John finally was able to wake up in the morning ready to get up and get going. He finally was excited to wake up to start the day and get back to work.
Now that the decisions have been made, insulin is just a part of his day. He wakes up, eats breakfast, brushes his teeth, shaves, takes his insulin and insulin support supplements and tests his blood sugar, and then goes on with the rest of his day. He has been given another chance at a normal life again, and he credits is all to the insulin and insulin support supplements.
Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes is a progressive condition which occurs when the body isn't producing enough insulin or not using insulin properly. Insulin is a natural hormone that a healthy body produces to help convert glucose from the foods we eat into energy. If your body is not producing enough insulin naturally, you should ask your doctor if taking insulin could help.
Sixteen million people in the US have diabetes and another fourteen million are pre-diabetic. Type 1 diabetes, insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), or juvenile diabetes is five to ten percent of the diabetics. It is an autoimmune disease since the body attacks the isles of Langerhorn in the pancreas where insulin is produced and destroys them.
So 90% have Type 2 diabetes, non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NDDM), where the pancreas produce insulin but the body is unable to use it effectively to remove sugar from the bloodstream. They are insulin resistant. This develops in overweight sedentary people over forty.
The pre-diabetic, on their way to Type 2 diabetes but not there yet, have the best chance to avoid diabetes by losing weight, exercising and taking supplements.
Insulin Support Supplements
The insulin support supplements have helped to increase the insulin in John’s body naturally, which will result in a lower dose of insulin.
• R-ALA and biotin are potent antioxidants and can increase your muscles’ uptake of glycogen. It helps partition nutrients to lean tissue and away from fat tissue, enhances glucose utilization and can help lower blood sugar.
• Chromium can lower insulin levels in the blood. The organic compounds of chromium are active, while the inorganic chromium chloride is not as effective. Chromium picolinate may not be safe.
• Vanadium is necessary for insulin metabolism and we just don’t get enough in our diet.
• Green tea catechins (EGCG) are shown to protect the insulin-secreting pancreatic islet cells.
• Cinnamon supplies bioactive cinnamon compounds that potentiate insulin activity.
• Alpha-lipoic acid is a free radical scavenger that enhances insulin sensitivity. It can also help reduce or even reverse nerve damage due to diabetes.
• Magnesium Aspartate, is a combination of magnesium with the nonessential amino acid, aspartic acid. Nonessential means that our bodies produce it even if we don't get enough of this amino acid from the food we eat. They help to produce neurotransmitters, which are the chemicals that convey messages in the brain and they also help to produce hormones, such as insulin. Magnesium is important as a heart supplement too, see “Supplements for Heart Health”.
• 2700 mg of Panax ginseng reduced the insulin needed by a group of diabetics in one study.
Face your fears of insulin so that you can take control back in your life and start living again.
