Quick Natural Cures for Stomach Aches

stomach achesStomach aches are common around the holiday season.  We indulge ourselves and eat too much turkey on Thanksgiving and eat too much ham on Christmas day.  Stomach aches can also be caused by other things including indigestion, excessive gas, ulcers, kidney stones, urinary tract infections and hernias.

Stomach Ache Remedies

While some of these causes can be serious and require a visit to your doctor, sometimes an upset stomach is just that - a sick stomach.  If you suffer from an occasional stomach ache, here are some natural remedies for stomach aches:

• Drink tea with lemon or honey.  The tea is the important ingredient, so if you enjoy a good cup of tea, you are in luck.

• Eat an apple. Cut it up and keep the skin on.  You can try adding a little ground ginger or sugar if you like.  You could even heat it up for a few seconds and eat it warm.

• Lime sherbet and lemon-lime soda.  Place a few scoops of sherbet in a glass and add some soda.

• Drink constant sips of either lukewarm or very warm water, but don’t drink it fast.

• If you can handle it, try drinking a teaspoon of vinegar.

• Flat soda is also a helpful remedy.

If you drink lots of water it helps with bowel movements and this can help avoid a stomach ache before you get one.  Avoiding processed food like cheese, chocolate and dairy products can also help.  These foods tend to clog the bowels and cause a stomach ache.

Other things you can to do to avoid a stomach ache are eating a balanced diet with plenty of dark green leafy vegetables, staying active by walking or exercising regularly and getting enough rest.  Balancing your lifestyle is a great way to stay healthy.
